Last night a big storm blew up around 9pm and the rain and winds continued through the night. It has been a heat wave for the last week or so with temperatures in the mid 30s and still hot at night but tonight a cold front blew in and the temp was down to 10 degrees celcius.

It was American Independence day and a big night for fireworks. It only gets dark around 9.30pm (after our bedtime) so lying in the tent we could hear thunder, the wind howling through the trees and fireworks (being let off despite the rain). It was a pretty noisy night.

In the morning I felt very grateful for our quality tent and Stan's expertise at putting it up in the right place in the right way, because the other tents around us had not fared so well and were in a sorry state. Most people seem to have slept in their cars. The discussion in the bathroom seemed to be all about what time people's tents had fallen down, leaked puddles of water and the occupants moved to their cars to sleep.

It felt freezing cold and we packed away a very wet tent and had breakfast in a cafe. It was still raining at 8.30am when we decided to leave anyway. It rained for about an hour (and we got soaking wet). The rest of the day was very cold but it did stay dry.

We crossed the border into Canada today (and had to wait in a queue for about an hour at the border crossing).
