These are some recommendations of the 'best'
hikes in Hong Kong useful to visitors or new arrivals.
The main issue here is that some of the best hikes are very long
and it is very hot here in the summer so even fit and experienced hikers who are
not used to the weather may find it difficult. Therefore, however fit you
may think you are, I recommend that, particularly from May to September, you
start on shorter hikes and then increase to the longer hikes if you have no
problems. Remember even the shorter hikes are still hikes - if you want to take
your frail grandmother on a stroll, you are looking in the wrong place. Remember
to wear good shoes, a hat, and have plenty of water and sun-lotion even in
winter.

although the hikes are well-marked I do not recommend you attempt them without
an appropriate map. The recommended maps are the Countryside Series available
